Only seen four. Need to see more, and rewatch "A snake of June" again and again. I really liked it.
I saw "Nightmare Detective" a few months ago at the cinema and it was a huge disappointment. Despite breath-taking cinematography and interesting editing, the movie as a whole was forgettable J-Horror. 1. Tetsuo (1988 ) 7/10 2. Tokyo Fist (1995) 8/10 3. Rokugatsu no hebi "Snake of June" (2002) 8 /10 4. Akumu tantei "Nightmare Detective (2006) 5/10

2. Tokyo Fist (1995) 10/10 3. Bullet Ballet (1998) 9/10 4. A Snake of June (2004) 9/10 5. Nightmare Detective (2006) 5/10 Probably my favorite contemporary Japanese filmmaker, though I need to see more by him and also more or less disliked his last film (NIGHTMARE DETECTIVE) which I consider to be a failure of a commercial feature. Also, I got the feeling that A SNAKE OF JUNE and BULLET BALLET could out-beat TOKYO FIST the next time I'll watch them. |
