One of my favorite (Top 5) Directors of all time, though I haven't seen even the half of his enormous output. I was quite surprised and a little
disappointed not to find any thread devoted to him here.
1. [The Maltese Falcon] (1941) 8/10

4. Key Largo (1948) 8/10 - 20/25
5. [The Asphalt Jungle] (1950) 8/10
6. [The African Queen] (1951) 10/10

13. [Casino Royale] (1967) 6/10
14. Fat City (1971) 9/10 22/25
15. The Man Who Would Be King (1975) 10/10 - 23/25
16. [Phobia] (1980) 4/10 - 10/25
17. [Prizzi's Honor] (1985) 9/10 - 22/25
Looking at the current state of the board, it will probably take a little time to find out if there might be another Huston lover around here - I certainly hope so.
[Films in brackets] = First seen in a German dubbed version.
Hope to see everything else by him in the future, for the time being, I'm especially attracted by his later works like REFLECTIONS IN A GOLDEN EYE, FAT CITY, THE DEAD, A WALK WITH LOVE AND DEATH, WISE BLOOD and UNDER THE VOLCANO.

The
more one gets into the Hollywood of the 40ies / 50ies / 60ies, the more one is able to appreciate Huston as one of its true masters. Beside his classic canon
films, he seems to be a bit neglected nowadays which could also be the result of some dubious "faults" in his later biography like ANNIE (of which I
once catched parts on TV - it looked bad indeed) or PHOBIA which may distract many from recognizing Huston as the "Auteur" (overused term, yes) he
was, in my opinion and, thank god, that of many other passionate cineastes. It may also has to do with the everlasting argument of Huston having no
"signature style" with which I couldn't disagree more - the absence of a continuity of form and narrative style in his Oeuvre sort of was his
signature, along with certain motives and themes he always revisited throughout his career and his weird, yet interesting sense of morality.
